The truth is yes, travel can be expensive, but if you plan with a budget in mind, travel can be extremely cheap and worthwhile. Backpacking with a budget is very do-able!

From personal experience, backpacking with a budget was challenging at first until I found my own personal niches. I started off with only allowing myself to spend a certain amount on food each day. Of course, this budget differed depending on where I was in the world. For example, the country of Australia can be quite pricey, so I allowed myself to spend twenty dollars on food per day. In Czech Republic, I made sure I spent only up to ten korunas per day. By setting a monetary limit for yourself, you are able to keep track of what you acquire to make sure you don't run out before you embark back home!

A second niche I took advantage of while backpacking was not only staying in affordable hostels, but Couchsurfing. If you are unfamiliar with this webpage, it is a hospitality exchange and social network site. I have met some of the greatest people through Couchsurfing. This convenient site allows you to host travelers by allowing them to "surf" on your couch - vice versa. Events are even listed on this website as well. By entering your current location, you can meet fellow travelers or locals that share similar interests with you and organize to meet up. By using this application, you can meet a diverse range of people and receive free places to stay. This can help save tons of money during your travels.

Vagabonding by Rolf Potts is an excellent read...an uncommon guide to world travel.
